I don't remember the numbers for sure, but from my very poor memory, its the Brinnell hardness numbers that are more important, the tensile strength (pull apart strength) is actually pretty high with AR. AR400 is a Brinnell of 400... A514 (T1) is somewhere around... 250? Almost.. Almost anything you build needs to have a certain amount of flex before it cracks. A514 will flex quite a bit. AR400 will just... crack! Because of its hardness, even brittleness if you want to call it that, it wears really, really good.
A long, long time ago, I used to make some blades for sod cutting machines... We tested with AR400, and with AR200. We hoped the AR400 would work good, because with its increased hardness, it would (should) hold a sharp edge much longer, and we were trying to lengthen sharpening intervals. Unfortunately, the AR400 blades, although they held an edge, the couldn't make it through the day before they snapped. AR200, (200 - 225 Brinnell) made it close to two days before they got too dull to use. And they were soft enough to survive, get sharpened, and run again.
Hmm I think I got side-tracked there... time to go home an eat some burgers!

Hardox itself would be more of a brand/trade name, but I'm pretty sure it is the same as AR (Abrasion Resistant). Should be able to get Hardox the same way you can get AR... Hardox200, Hardox400 etc...snowman_w900 Thanks this. -

It's a great box liner.
Cat LOHT trucks have Hardox 400 liners.
LOHT = Large Off Hughway Trucks, read Rick Trucks. I e got several chunks of it laying around. They used to send a piece to place under the front of the 777 & 789 Rick boxes I used to haul so they wouldn't punch through the deck. It's hard stuff, a 80,000lbs box doesn't make a mark in it! Thought about building an extra pontoon out of one, but it would be darn heavy!PeteyFixAll, snowman_w900, johndeere4020 and 3 others Thank this. -
