Better keep this thread on track. The picture of the D6H loaded forward was at the dealer, blade wouldn't go up on its own, lifted up with a 160 and did a little dance backing it onto the trailer.

Can anyone tell me what the rule is using two separate chains on one attachment point? I have probably (12) 10 ft chains and (1) 20 ft with grab hooks on each end, then I have (4) 4 ft with a grab hook on one end and (4) 3 ft with a slip hook on one end, all 1/2" G70. For example, when hauling the 329's I'll use the 4 short chains with a slip hook to hook into the eye on the inside of the carbody, then grab that chain with a ten footer and go across the deck to a binder on the rail. Am I doing this correctly or does the DOT frown upon this method? It really makes it easy being able to decide how I want to chain things like this, lots of versatility.

Also, I know that excavator booms need to be chained because they are an "appendage", but I can't seem to make sense of the laws completely. Do dozer blades need their own chain as well? Currently on short moves I don't bother and on longer moves I'll throw a 3/8 "looks" chain over it, but some clarification would be nice.

I would also like to say thanks for the warm welcome. I really don't understand why people get offended when they step into a community, be it an online one or not, and start acting ####y, can barely type/speak, ask a bunch of stupid questions without doing their research, have no real value to add to anything, and then don't understand why they aren't welcome. By all means if I know I'm right about something I'll sure stand my ground, but everything I have learned has come from shutting my mouth and using my ears or eyes.

Anyway, off my soapbox now, enjoy some pictures.

All looks pretty good, but the only thing i wonder is on that last pic, i wonder if the MAN would bust your arse over those mud flaps. Not saying he would or wouldnt.....i just wonder what theyd say if you ran into the wrong one.

    What do ya think?

Looks like plastic flaps that got bent up when somebody detached that flip and let it rest on the rear bumper.

I would probably let them ride if it were me but I don't pay for my mudflaps. I could for sure see a DOT guy in a bad mood using that as a reason to write a ticket if he couldn't find anything else.

So you are describing using a 10foot chain to grab the tail of the 4ft chain to make a 14ft chain?

That should be fine as long as all components are rated the same.

I've done similar things before since I carry a large number of 10ft chains and needed a bunch of 20s for a load.

johndeere4020, SAR, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this.

Actually I just noticed that it doesn't have a rear bumper. How is that legal?

    johndeere4020 Thanks this.
