Big Loads - Post Photos Number 2

I'm just learning and I want to thank all of y'all for taking me under your wings and schooling me. I appreciate it. I truly appreciate everything you share with me.

Drivers like me and chewy love what you show us. We ain't perfect and we will make mistakes but we will make less because of what you taught us.

 

It's like the others have said, it takes practice. I usually will pull up to the trailer and get out and look first before driving on the trailer. One time I drove that stupid thing on and off 5 times before I was happy. I like to run with the load a little to the driver's side of the trailer, maybe an inch or 2. Especially if I am going to run the 2 lanes most of the way. On the interstate I don't care. Helps to oppose the lean from the crown in the road. I am not one to be anal about it being perfectly on the trailer either, as long as it's close it does not have to be tape measure perfect for me.

Oh, if you are picking up a used truck, lift the bed and make sure that it is empty. I picked one up that after picking up the trailer I noticed that it was really heavy. Turned out to have about 10k in dirt stuck in the bed. Sometimes they can be full of water too. It is funny the first time the driver stops quickly and the water comes over the cab of the truck. Seen that happen once.

Sometimes these jokers will try and put stuff in the bed so they don't have to use a separate truck to move the divisible load.

This is how I flag the corners. Only difference is now I use a 1.25" sheetrock screw and a fender washer instead of a nail. The important thing to remember is that you put the screw/nail into the lug of the tire and not the sideway... LOL

Flagging a rock truck is always fun if you don't have magnets

 

I have lost them so I quit using them. Plus some states tell you to flag the corners and some officers take that literally.

No they are letting
Me park here overnight but tomorrow I am going to call the days inn and check if no then I will just bounce to the truck stops out by Tracy and rent a car

 

@cnsper The customer doesn't complain about sticking a screw in the tire like that?

 

Never had a complaint. You are no where near the casing at all with the screw. I always put them in the tallest lug of the tire too and about 1/2" from the outside of the tire. Now if I was picking them up at a factory then I would do something else. Most of what I haul is used and there are cuts deeper than the screw in those tires.

 

Just a thought- The 49'er in Sacto can fit you, secure gated lot, several car rental places close by & I think it's closer to Novato than Tracy. It is a Pilot now & they do charge to park.
