Did you have weight savings with the beam vs your deck?

    SAR Thanks this.

    Uh, I had hopes...

I was 78k with my flat deck and am 77k with the beam. Not totally sure what went wrong.

My flat deck is 26’ but my beam is 30’

I do have 3 fabricated steel pontoons on there that I had made for certain loads that I will probably leave at home and that will save about 1200 lbs and my tarps are another 300 lbs

On the down side I would guess that I put 800-1000 lbs of hardwood blocks on the trailer.

So - the engineering to make it a 65ton beam may have been over engineered and added weight.

I will weigh it again on a different scale - this one was a down hill version where the tractor was off the scale and lower than the trailer axles

transwest had 26’ rail decks (horizontal pin) that they ordered with trailers that the buyers didn’t buy. You guys might check with them and see if they still have them - you might get a really good deal on one

MartinFromBC, SAR and Oxbow Thank this.

You got me feeling like a lightweight rookie with just my new 40 ton extendable. These days the only heavy stuff I’m doing is power only, dragging a customers 90k trailers.

Doing tall, wide, but lightweight stuff with the extendable.

I admire your spirit, tenacity & willingness to put the money out there to achieve your goals. I’ve known too many that aren’t willing to invest their time or money wisely into a pursuit & then they can’t understand why they fall short of their goal.

Everything is going well at this time. Changed my focus a bit to fit better with the reality of the work readily available to me. Made a new alliance with someone who needs & appreciates what I can offer. It seems to be paying off nicely for both, with just an occasional clash between their hardheadedness & my smartarseness.

Would be honored to break bread with you anytime.

The guy I hauled for bought himself a 90 ton beam about 3 months before I left there.

That’s something he decided he had to have after destroying another trailer moving a 4100 Manitowoc in one piece.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

I’ve been meaning to do this. Here are some pictures from my days in the heavy haul business.

This was a 963 Cat with a root rake on it, on a 35 ton Fontaine.

This was a D6, on the same trailer.
