Here’s a real stupid question for you guys. What do the shims look like and how do you use them?

It was actually the opposite(I think although we could saying the same thing and I am too tired too recognize) I was pinned against the top stops and buried the trailer axles and no weight transfer to the booster. But same difference, just hoped to cure it by adding booster shim but that wasn’t near enough.

I think I will like the beam, in time, just a bunch of learning. I don’t know how the lean will feel but it has to better than up high on a flat deck - I would be around 16’ 2” with my flat deck - so not practical to haul from a cost and route standpoint.

My booster shims are just steel plates in an almost rectangle shape and go between the back of walking beam and the front of the booster. They come in different thickness like 1/4 1/2 3/4 1 and change the angle of the connection. In a west coast trailer they change the travel on the front rollers on the walking or coffin beam.

My deck shims look like flat W’s and go between the back of the deck and wheel area or bogie.and they change the deck height at the rear and the travel of the rollers.

More shim higher deck height and lower neutral position of rollers. The rollers need room to travel both up and down to keep the weight pivoting on the pivot joint where the walking beam is attached to the trailer.

Or something like that- since I did not have enough of either shim in - I was escrewd

I’ve never worked with a beam, but after reading JD’s post I was thinking the same thing you were.

Tire bounce is nasty when you’re running spring ride equipment in addition to it.

SAR, cke, johndeere4020 and 1 other person Thank this.
