B.C. scale employees, and the boys in the white pickups, have no sense of humor, and are happy to write you a case full of tickets if you give them a reason to, and especially if you start telling them why you think you are legal. Say as little as possible, don't argue, and before leaving the yard throw on 4 to 6 more chains than you think you need, so it really looks like you are trying very hard to secure the load above and beyond the call of duty. I haven't been on here in about 6 months, so was reading back some in this thread, and a few months ago someone asked why so many axles for a light load.
Usually for me I have to run out with something heavy, qnd back lighter, or out lighter and back heavy. Scale doesn't mind if i have down 3, 4, or 5 axles more than required, but will question me why they are not down, even if legal. If i need 12 axles going one direction, I just drag all 12 both ways. They seem glad to see me when i am 50% under weight on axles. Does it seem ridiculous to have only a D6 on 12 axles? Yes it does, but the suits are happy, so my day is great. I got pulled over 3 weeks ago by CVSE, as they are aware I often don't have to run across scales living where I am. The two gentlemen started the conversation with " You have a rep for being safe, so we usually just ignore you, but this random stop is to see if you are getting slack because we leave you alone". The D8 was overly chained down, my permits good, they had a look at my lights, and said looks great. I was back on my way within 5 or 6 minutes, and no hassles, because I am an anal retentive, OCD type. They commented on how they liked that I always spend an extra few minutes throwing on more than minimum legal chains. It was going on a 9 hour ride, so the 4 extra minutes spent chaining it down wasn't enough to be a blip on the timeline.

and the 4 to 10 minutes at the shippers saved 20 or 30 at the scale or at the roadside check.

In case you ever need to know this, a Volvo A40G will fit in a 24 foot well with basically zero room to spare. I was really concerned whether I could re-attach my neck today, but fortunately it did, just barely.

When you get older, and your shoulder problems start, look into speed binders and carry a cordless drill.
You will thank me for this post someday in the future.
