No crate, just wrapped in cardboard & heavy duty shrink wrap then tarped. Wasn't wild about the securement limitations either. That picture was at delivery & I had already pulled most of the chains off, just left the ones needed to hold the stands on the trailer. Got paid for returning them to the shipper.

The way they have it clamped to the stands & the fact they only allow 2-4 strap points pulling it down was a bit disconcerting. I put extra chains on the stands so if anything went bad they would be destroyed before the turbine came loose, hopefully.

So for those of you who do heavy haul as your regular business, my assumption is that you routinely haul items of significant value and have much higher insurance limits than a "standard" flatbed o/o.
    1. Is that accurate?
    2. Would a load like this necessitate a special insurance rider or stand-alone policy to cover excessive value?

Golden Rule: NEVER sign anything with value marked on it!
Cargo insurance is standard $2,00/pound. That's why you never sign anything with a value, otherwise you're on the hook because you signed verifying the value, that is now what the cargo is valued/insured for. Any load that wants value insurance over $2/lb gets a rider.
We carry big liability insurance, because incidents may appear on the 5 o'clock news.

The guy at the place I picked up that turbine said it was a 10-million dollar piece, nothing on the paperwork about value though.

I was right at 13' 10" with that unit.. Rode great. Easy tie down.
The guys at the plant were super nice..
I told them I need to know how to run it as I'm the guy having to unld it at the port. They showed me and it was nice knowing the steps involved for it. As I was walking it off the trl. I'm like I know they had boards out for lding. Do I need them for off lding. Then as I was about to break over center the light bulb went off. opps stop.
Caught it before anything bad could of happened..lol
