A mill roll is how coils are made. Takes special dunnage to haul mill rolls. There is what we call super coils. Typically black iron for pipes that are more than 70k pounds.

 

About 2003 a buddy of mine spent a year hauling JD sprayers from a port in LA up to western Canada. He hauled them on a tridem RGN with the wheels on and the RGN acting like a beam trailer. He had folding steel stands that he used for blocking.

 

without slide outs - that is the only realistic way. I think the right tool for the job makes the most sense - or digging a really big hole and pushing them in with the combined and scrapers.

 

Thanks for the pictures. I remember seeing them moved like that when they were putting the finishing touches on I-5 in the north valley. They sure would bounce !
When they finished Oroville Dam Bigge hauled a bunch of scrapers to Williams. LOL...union outfit, they'd move one a day. No more, no less. Nobody got in a hurry. I moved some crane booms for them and got told to "slow down, kid. There's no money in getting in a hurry."

 

Just that scraper alone looks sketchy as hell

 

i would rather use my combine blocks also. That’s how we haul them to the ports. I hear ya bud. That was my first choice of options that I gave to the customer. The customer had no way of re-installing the wheels when we got to his field where I was delivering. The old field delivery trick toy wind haulers know about that. It got real sticky
