I bet that sucker was all sorts of squirlley. Life lesson #972 cold smooth steel plus cold smooth steel = slick as owl #### on a rainy night.
    Lol.
You got her on in one piece without having to change your shorts and that's what's important.

I agree on the smooth drum with a slick deck. You have to keep a good amount of speed to get on, and then have no idea if it is going to stay there when you try to stop.[/QUOTE]
Ah-HAH. Thanks for the clarification, I should have immediately seen the problem, but I didn't.

My boss tried to load one on a sliding axle trailer a couple of years ago in the winter. He said he would have paid money for that ride.

Either Cold Frozen Steel with a little ice or snow, or Wet Steel even in the summer can make it very interesting!!
Try a tag trailer with steel ramps sometime, even single drum with rubber tires is a challenge! You end up trying to park a little down hill, kinda soften the approach angle but ruins the "landing pad" angle! Cow Matts help but gravity has the upper hand especially when snow is involved. We have had to resort to pushing them on a few times, especially the narrower ones.

NCM_0155.JPG NCM_0156.JPG Hauled our hoe home the other day - the machine was a little messy by the time I was done.

Certainly not a big load, but I sure enjoy seeing your pictures so thought I would add these.

OK, here is a question for all you experienced scraper hauler.......

if one was to haul a 631 backwards and put the bowl up on the neck of the trailer, do you have to unchain and lift the bowl everytime you need to put the trailer on the ground to dropthe trailer?

may have to move one a long way next week if they take my price .... not sure if I can just have it backed on and get it to scale correctly.

@truckdad,I know you must have a picture of this somewhere

The rear frame rests right on the goosneck, so yes. If you drop the main trailer on the ground you must lift the weight off it. But unless you had to pull the jeep out for some reason, you would only do that when loading & unloading. This trailer had a 24' deck & its loaded as far back as I could go. Im guessing most necks are similar widths. Ive had a few 37s that the insides of the tires were pretty tight on the neck. I made 2 steel "blocks" that sat on top of each rail to put the cutting edge on. A little motor oil on top of the rails let them slide real easy, you could move the machine forward or back easily. More importantly, they were able to move a little as you powered the can down while lifting the back end high enough to get the neck back on. The rear of the scraper needs to be very straight on the trailer.

When I fuel, I put the trailer on the ground and pull the Jeep out and then after fueling, back the Jeep back under.

I had a bad experience leaving the weight on the Jeep and then lowering the landing gear - #### near collapsed the landing gear.

Did you just block under the trailer to take the weight off and then lower the gear on the jeep?

Yes if I was REAL heavy. My jeep had pipe legs with pins & the 31s never were that heavy on the drivers. You should just get a jeep & dolly & do it the fun way!
