It has a pin that locks so I can backup…. The logistics of doing so make the risk/reward not really worth it for me unless I’m getting under a crane.

And I doubt I’d be able to get it perfectly aligned in a truck stop to raise the pin in the first place.

    I go forward.

If it has an air lock for the pin you can set it to lock and then snake forward. When you get it aligned it should snap into place. Usually it's loud enough that I can hear it from the truck if I leave the window open.

When I have to back up one of our combinations. Once I get the pin up, I’ll then let the air out of the axles on the stinger. This moves most if not all of the weight back to the trailer, taking the stress of the components of the stinger. I don’t think I ever seen a pin break. I have see the ears bend at the pivoting pin. Sometimes we will even go as far as taking the shims out.

Yes, I know how the trailer works. We’ve had pins break routinely over the years. Whether from driver abuse or equipment failure I couldn’t tell you. Everyone that drags one of these has broken one it seems.

It doesn’t take much to break a pot metal trailer.

you’re telling me. they expect another 5 years outta them :/

We have 2 that we’re made by Transmaster and are in significant better shape than the Etnyres which are simply showing their age…. Doesn’t help that we’ve abused them.

How many years you been pulling one? I'm just curious what you do if you break a pin.
