110,000 lbs Generator Rotor.
Hey let's build a building with a 40ft piece to ship out but only put a 35ft crane bay in it. Behind that curb is a catwalk with a 20ft drop into the basement. Then the fun of trying to put the last axle back on loaded.

Good thing it’s a rental trailer! Haha.
I wish I still had the picture of me bumped against the pit dock where I loaded this 88’ table. It’s about 40’ long. They rig the piece about 20’ from the end, set the front on your trailer, disconnect the crane and pick up the rear. Then you slowly stretch the trailer while they run the crane forward. -
Oh it's not a rental. Never saw a reason to replace 6 perfectly good mudflaps.
I was not super happy about it but I loaded a smaller piece here Friday so I had time to plan ahead for it. Built those wood ramps yesterday and I'm probably going to build some more smaller ones for when I take it back.
It was making some pretty awful noises as they set it down. I was just happy the ears didn't rip off the back.Last edited: Mar 17, 2025

I see the ramps now. I missed that the first go round. Do the flips not have the flip linkages on top? If so could you just pull the bottom pins between 3 and 4? Obviously disconnecting the air line for the suspension.

They do. I have flip links and straight links for both axles. My only concern with pulling the main pins is I would never get them back in. I was barely able to lift high enough to put shims and the second flip on. You would have to lift the entire weight on 3 axles which would be like 120,000 lbs. Even at 120PSI the bags can't lift 40K/axle. The situation is worse with the flips missing because it effectively moves the center of the trailer 5ft forward so it puts even more weight on the back than when all 5 axles are in place.
I did something like that in the past with my old west coast trailer to put the booster on after loading. I had to max out the bags and still used 2 20T jacks under the back to lift high enough to attach the pins.
I don't even like running the straight 5. It's super hard on the tires. The tires look like they are going to roll off the rims in every turn. It also fights me through every turn.
I really should have just pulled that axle off too.cke, ElmerFudpucker, kylefitzy and 11 others Thank this. -
