composter.jpg This is a mushroom compost turning machine. It drives over a long mile of ####, mixes it all up and leaves it steaming in the sun. 2001 Pete was my light duty highway tractor, usually hauling forklifts, graders, rollers etc. I bought this truck used in 2004 & it had only 75K miles on it. It looked brand new. 475 Cat & 13 sp. Trailer is a 1998 Murray 45 ton.

Triple six hit the nail on the hammer with his last two posts. I thought just because I hauled equipment and hauled 10-12' wide loads, that it was going to be easy moving up to an RGN and moving paving equipment.

Well after being use to hauling 210 excavators, having to haul a 450 excavator that weighs 100k isn't like driving without training wheels. Its more like going from driving a bike with training wheels to driving a 1100cc crotch rocket. Its night and day.

Or side loading a 290 in the mud. Its so easy to drop it off the trailer. I always moved up in the ranks so easy, that I thought the big #### was just like the small stuff but bigger.

I've learnt that its not just a cakewalk. That you got to watch every little detail right down to the millimeter. Because when your dealing with a machine that weighs 100k, every inch counts.

Long story short, the lesson I learnt is being the best middleweight champion isn't going to make you a good heavy weight fighter, you got to sit there and leant to take the heavy weight punches before you can run with the big boys.

Its not all glory being a heavy weight.

I really like the forum and all of you heavy haul guys, but I'm not even close to the same league as most of you. probably 80 percent of what I haul we own and usually we stay in Virginia.I just like moving equipment rather it's 17,000 or 70,000 I try to dot every I and cross every T.I just like to read and learn what I can from the ones that do it on a whole different level.I'll post more of my little pictures when I can get my old phone download it.

I hope all those who enjoy hauling big stuff get their chance & make the best of it. Just finding a website like this one shows ones interest in what I think is the best job a man could have. The only better feeling than pulling out of the yard at 3am with a 200,000 lb. unit, easing onto the highway with a cup of coffee in the holder, is arriving at your destination without incident & making a profit. Just one mans opinion. Also, DONT retire from it!

In the type of hauling I did, there was 100 of these for every big load I moved. Literally 1000s(collectively) of graders, forklifts, rollers, k-rail, small scrapers, pallet jacks!, backhoes, etc. Putting 2 or 3 items on a lowbed can be just as challenging as any big load, sometimes more..Here is a cat 563 & skip. these are easy. This is my retirement job. couple days a week or when needed. Worn out 30 year old equipment and driver!! lol.
