I doubt it was me but i did make a post about a peak n tune myth..Its not my wording but a copy and paste..
I only did it cause so many have it blindly done and end up with a boogered up radio....I went through the same thing when wolfmans boys tweeked my other 955....I couldnt get a decient range but was loud and proud when within a cpl mi of more radios..
After marks tune and a lil advice from rabbi, there was a HUGE improvement....I spent time understanding antenna a lil more and made more improvements..

Thats basically how fine tune does it....He doesnt max stuff out to make a meter happy but he cuts back and tweeks other stuff that will still beef up tx/rec w/o stressing or causeing more heat and no spill over..So much better getting all the power out on one freq vs a few at same time..

Thanks Nightstalker , you have answered my numerous questions very thoroughly, one more though if you dont mind, does spreading coils ( not that I would do that) increase pep wattage and modulation and obviously cause more harmonics and distortion?

Don't know the results of coil spreading but its a big nnoooooooooooooooooooooooo to good techs..It does screw up #### but might make meters happy..Soo many base how good their radio works based sole on watt output..

Craig, that’s a great post. It’s something every tech should remember. To back that theory up, I would say Marks happy customers is all the proof you need.

Well I don't have the experience that most have here but I have an idea...Its a simple concept..Get more work on less effort is what every living creature would prefer..

Craig basically answered your question. He’s on a roll today....LOL. Spreading the coils does show extra PEP wattage on the meter. that’s probably where the term happy meter came from. You’re correct too Wolfy by saying it can create harmonics. I’m sure that’s one of the reason Mark says don’t watch the meter. It seems to be a gimmick that the hack technicians use to make the customer happy. Unfortunately it makes the radios transmission worse.

Well I have watched this forum for several years before I finally decided to sign up. All I can say is you’ve done very well learning all this stuff about cb radios and antenna systems.
