Best thing to do if you are ahead of schedule is call the customer and ask them if they want you early. Make sure you are polite. If they will take you early let your dispatcher know what time you will be there so he is updated on your availability.
Or if you are ahead of schedule and you decide you would rather sleep in, I would say go for it and tell dispatcher to pound sand. But only do that if you are parked close to the delivery. You don't want to be sitting around if you still have hundreds of miles to go, in case you have a breakdown or something. But there is no rule saying you HAVE to deliver early just because you can.
