Actually...all of the replies above were things I knew were going to be an everyday challenge...so, if you aren't scared of stress, hiccups, exct...You'll be living the dream, as I am.

I don't have much of a problem with that:most of the time they screw everything up lickety split and the customer values me even more and doesn't second guess why I'm more expensive than everyone else.
It is frustrating to hear when guys get in direct and work for peanuts tho :(

Sadly, our direct customer wants us to stay and has paid the premium since 2008, yet this new "firm" came in and took over all the routing and hands out the loads based off of price. We went from 4 loads with 2 trucks to 1 load with 3 trucks. I have finally come to terms that this is a business and sadly the only one that has any say seems to be the "firm". All the stores we deliver to love us, some I even go drinking with when I get home! Clearly we are loved at our shipper if we've been there since 2008. What amazes me is someone is running into the northeast cheaper than the company trucks.

That's the same issue we been having. Had a nice safe gig running into northeast. Been doing it for 2 years about 18 trucks two times a week at least. Had a direct shipper back too and we had a decent price. Lost both accounts and now we see those loads on the board being taken for dirt cheap thanks to brokers.

That's an easy fix. Unless you just have unrealistic expectations.

I won't give you step by step directions on how to get "the right money" but here is a hint, it starts with the guy looking back at you in the mirror. Once I figured that out, the rest came pretty easy, and my income doubled.

It's not the broker moving them for dirty cheap. It's your fellow owner operators agreeing to move them that cheap.
