I know many don't know their operating costs, which I'm sure has some to do with it. Why on earth would one willingly pull a cheap load into a cheap area? Though part of me feels that if you want to go to bronx/brooklyn/LI/etc, for under 1.75(just an educated guess, it could be less), then have at it.

    Mileage matters.

I turn down loads couple times a week $5+ per mile. 120 miles must tarp into Brooklyn. Cheap way to waste a day.

Same girl called me with one of those 3 days running. First day she told me the rate after I asked weight, tarp, chains, extra stops. I laughed and told her have a nice day. Second day cut her off early "I'm booked" Third day "you've called me the past two days, you're calling every person with a posted truck, plus taking done calls I'm sure. I get $xxxx for no tarp one pick one drop to do what you're talking about. Consider the kind of carrier you'll have to find to pull the load your describing at the rate you're pushing who would believe that it's any kind of good rate. When you can pay $xxxx then call me, I book out way ahead of the "hot load must go today" at that rate. ""

Please don't waste either of our time by calling with offers like that again.

Yes owner operators take it for cheap because they don't undertand their "2,400$" net pay isn't suppose to go in their pockets. Then they wonder why they never have money. Who are these supplied by? The broker. It's insane to me that someone will take a two day delivery from Chicago area to the east coast, reefer and heavy for 1600$. To haul back like $1,000???! We went from grossing 10k a week per truck on amd weekends at how to now 7k avg. Yet I see on forums and facebook groups owner operators are happy with a 4-5k gross on 2500-2800 miles. I'm hoping these guys run out of business quick so we guys like you and me that don't haul cheap can get real money again before another batch of uneducated drivers cycles with their cheap hauling.

Someone gets it! I can't undertstand the mentality of "I got 4 bucks a mile on my truck"... Ok cool, but on 500 miles? Pick up Monday morning to deliver Thursday evening? Unless you have a drop yard and multiple trailers what sense does that 4/mile matter.

There is no single thing for me. Its pretty much all of the above. I dislike working in general.

I keep playing lotto and power ball hoping I can win an early retirement.

Yikes!! I don't run NYC unless it's $6+ , the hell with anything less, it's not worth it. We were pulling from Gettysburg to Cheshire CT for $4/mi until a scum broker undercut the load to $2.50.

I think brokers are the #1 biggest problem with a close second being the ridiculous regs wrote by political desk jockeys.

Yea. Especially the ones around some of the service plazas. Get off in the hammer lane, get right back on in the hammer lane. Then you have 25 people talking on the phone doing 80 in a 65 in the hammer lane suddenly cutting over to avoid the 35mph vehicles merging on.

    Dumb idea.
