Most of you are probably already aware of this. But I just discovered the "Bird's Eye View" in Bing Virtual Earth. It is not satellite images but looks like pictures taken from a low-flying aircraft. It is much superior to the satellite imagery.

I have already found it useful a couple of times last weekend when I was looking for a motel. Even though they say they have truck parking I like to be able to check it out and this Bird's Eye View gives an excellent perspective of what to expect. Especially if Google Street View is not available in the area. It's also useful in checking out shippers and receivers if they're in a questionable or tight area.

I couldn't get it to allow me to copy an image but I pulled this from another site. And you can zoom in without losing hardly any quality as is the case with satellite imagery.

I use it all the time in conjunction with my Streets and Trips via the Windows Live Local button. It’s a wonderful tool, and since it works in conjunction with Streets & Trips it is far faster than using google maps. I use it to find my shippers and consignees all the time before I ever drive there to pushpin the precise location on my Streets & Trips map so that I can have turn-by-turn directions all the way there and also to see which is the best way to approach and park. I also used it to find several shippers and consignees when I had no final directions or when my final directions weren’t worth a crap.

I also have the Truck Stops Plus add-on template for Streets & Trips, which adds all the truck stops, rest areas, turnpike travel plazas, parking areas, super walmarts, etc. to Streets & Trips and is very accurate. Anyway, when I want to go do some shopping, after I use the Find Nearby Places feature in Streets & Trips to find the closest super walmart, I zoom in on it and then click the Windows Live Local button, which then brings up a browser window containing a Bing Birds Eye View of the particular super walmart, and then I can see which way is the best way to enter in order to park before I ever drive to it.

I have google maps now on my phone. I love it. I don't have to pull over and boot up the laptop anymore. I also like google's street view, where I can get a photo of the building I am looking for. I just got done playing around with Bing. the aerial photos are kind of cool, but I'll probably stick with google, at least for now.

You have to zoom in and do "Birds Eye View." The "Aerial" are not very good. You can't get Google "Street View" everywhere. "Birds Eye" would be good for you in those situations.
