I think you'll see more OTR companies turning their trucks back. I never had a problem driving 60mph but I was paid by the hour. Safety wise I really had no trouble there either. But if I was paid by the mile I'd sure want to at least drive the speed limit. Our trucks had the top end turned down but they sure would pull a grade hauling 105,000lbs. They wouldn't fly but I could keep up most trucks and I was alot heavier. I wouldn't be surprised if the national speed limit was reduced like before, maybe not back to 55mph but back to 65mph everywhere.

Maybe the oil "crisis" is the work of the ATA. They have been fighting for speed limiters on trucks and now most companies are going 3 to 6 mph less then they were calling for. LOL. Actually, I am surprised that we have not seen a national speed limit reduction since things are worse now than they were back in the 70's when it happened before. How much more oil could we be saving if these big SUV's and fancy high-speed sports cars were limited to 60 or 65 mph and not blowing everyone's doors off? The ones that get me are the ones with the big SUV pulling a huge camp trailer or, even more so, a huge powerboat. Must be nice to have that kind of money to pump out an exhaust pipe.

turning trucks back is all about saving $$$ on insurance and fuel. safety is NOT the issue here! there's nothing safe about an 80,000 pund rolling road block. Some state have done studies on this, and they've found that the speed limit difference between 4 wheelers and big trucks actually increases the chances for accidents.
