The company I work for has a 2 axle box truck and a Semi w/flatbed.
For about two years now we take the semi to a mechanic and get a bit inspection and then take it to the chp to get a sticker. Now I am told it needs a annual inspection from the mechanic also..I am really confused on this stuff . thanks in advance

A BIT is every 90 days, right ? Or is it every 60 ? An Annual is an annual, regardless of the BIT.
-
As "Allow Me" stated a BIT is every 90 days. It does not take the place of an annual inspection, nor does the CVSA sticker which I assume you are referring to when you said you take the vehicle to the CHP for a sticker.
-
I believe the CVSA sticker, which is a different color yearly with a different corner cut off quarterly, can only be issued by the inspection Cop when done by a certified state inspector, as in the scale house or roadside CMV inspection. There is a "mechanics" stick on thingy that goes on the inspected vehicle, with the pertinent info written in and dates.

the sticker in the windshield is done by the chp and it changes color every3 months ..so let me rephrase my question. what inspections are needed?
is it every three months by a machanic and the chp and then 1 every year by the mechanic? -
In CA the BIT is required as is a DOT annual inspection. The one you get from the CHP that changes color ever 3 months is a CVSA sticker and is not required (Although possibly desirable).
-
A CVSA sticker's colors (Green Yellow Orange and White) change every quarter beginning in Jan. Two corners cut off for the first month of the quarter, upper right for the second month of the quarter and no corners cut off for the third month of the quarter.
-
Right you are Pardner. Plus, the digit on the sticker is the last digit of the current year, which currently is "1".
-
I BIT inspection is done by a "Motor Carrier" by the CHP. They come to your terminal where ever that my be usually at your home or where you park your truck(equipment) and that is done every "2 year's". It's the law and you have to pay for it.
The CVSA sticker you get at the scale's (if you pass) is good for 90 day's, or when the inspector get's itch, they can pull you in when they want.
The inspection that is required annually(once a year) is done at a service shop.
