I've seen the damage that bad hold down bolts (or if the hold down was upside down), but I suspect a fuel problem as well.
Some of the truckstops around here have bio, but some are starting to sell the bio-mass made "diesel" crap. I hate that stuff. Consistently lose 1mpg with it.Same goes with the ULSD vs LSD. Gain .3-.5mpg with the LSD. A tiny bit more smoke on shifts, but I don't care.
Black stuff in fuel filters

Yea, ...the biocide is the place to start, if that doesn't clear your problem up...move on to the injector hold-down bolt....good luck!

Hey guys i have a 2014 pete and had a my first pm 9/18 all good one week later fuel water filter is clogged all black changed both filters.
Thought it was just a bad batch of fuel, three days later it starting turning black and half clogged changed filters after 600 miles starting to turn grey
after 1200 miles its black and grey fuel tanks look clean going to peterbilt again tomorrow could it also be fuel line deterioration? -
Go buy FPPF BIOCIDE and keep extra filters with you. This stuff is the best biocide, you won't be disappointed. Truck dealers always keep them in stock. Fill up yours tanks before you top them off, Dump half of a bottle in each tank, go park for 30mins or longer if you want; then go drive. Like I said keep extra filters with you.

A lot of good info here, especially bobcat1958's post. I run an old B model Cat and fuel only at Loves and all their fuel is bio-fuel,and awhile back and started consistently having to change filters, but no black stuff. I was at a t/s in Alabama that was within walking distance of a Fleet Pride, I walked down there to buy some more fuel filters and seen this stuff on the shelf called "Killem" by FPPF, I asked the guy behind the counter if it was any good and he told me that the local Alabama road department had gotten some new bio-diesel that totally crippled their fleet and after going thru cases of filters they added the "Killem" as prescribed and stopped their problem. I bought a bottle and followed the directions for "shocking" and added that amount, after a few miles I could actually feel the difference, ran the best I think it ever has. I changed all my fuel lines when I got home and replaced them with the synthetic hoses that are supposed to not be affected by chemicals and bio-diesel, pretty pricey tho, $395 just for the hose and fittings, not counting labor. I add the "Killem" on a regular basis now and have had no more problems, just my experience, hope it helps.
