It might not be a big deal in certain situations but one guy told me the other day he saw a YRC blow a steer and roll it. I'm just glad I had a little luck on my side that day. The tire was almost new, road was good and great weather.

It takes about half a second to perceive anything, such as danger. It takes another half a second for your electrochemical response.

I watch a LOT of accident videos. It's my way of staying on top of "what if's". This video shows how quickly, in a MODERN truck, you can die due to a steer tire blowout.

The driver of that truck had already started to lose control before hitting the brakes. He hit the brakes one second after the blowout, which looks like a shaped charge. Had he hit the accelerator instead of hitting the brakes, he may have saved it.

About three seconds after hitting the brakes, he was dead.

    Guess it all depends.

I saw 5 blown steers on thursday alone. In my home state. 4 had no rubber left over what so ever.

It's not often to see a blown steer. But 5 in one day. Don't know if any had to change clothes but they all managed to pull off onto the shoulder.

    AfterShock and Lepton1 Thank this.
