possibly not installed correctly or incorrect plugs or head not machined correctly.

could be too much pressure in the coolant system (ie) defective radiator cap, freeze plugs not installed correctly from the factory, not the correct coolant/water mix (causing a higher temp), stuck thermostat, not properly operation of the cooling fan (causing the temps to rise),

I would guess improper installation, wrong plugs. Hopefully you can just hammer in some new ones without installing another head.

I have the extended life coolant from cat in it..you don't have to mix it right, thats what the parts guy told me. I'm at Rush in El Paso, they put it on their computer and no codes, no high temp, and no compression difference...

glad you said......."no compression difference", because after i typed this, i thought about a possible leak at the head gasket, forcing the plugs to pop out under compression....i'd have the compression checked with a REAL compression gauge, NOT a hand held or stationary computer.....

have it done with the engine cold, as when it warms up, any leaks may seal themselves back up again...... could be when the heads were torqued down, it was improperly done in sequence OR not torqued to specs, OR Cat may use a "torque to yield" specs, the mechanic was not aware of...this "torque to yield" needs another gauge besides a torque wrench.....it's a "torque to yield" gauge, like a dial indicator....

i simply DO NOT trust a computer over REAL HANDS ON work........

Yeah I tried to have them put the plugs in it and some antifreeze in the radiator, then run a compression test... But they didn't want to because of the warranty it might void with the Cat head..

i do not see how testing for a problem will void a warranty..sounds to me that they are a bunch of hacks.....any mechanic worth his salt will want to get to the bottom of this.....i know as a former mechanic myself, i would have.....and HAVE......even the best of the best can mess up, it's how they rectify the problem that makes them shine....right now, all the polish in the world can't make those turds shine.......

    Oldironfan and brenes-built Thank this.

We must think alike... That's the same I was thinking when they told me that crap.. I'm back at the shop because they said they would get to it today, but now its in the morning.. A truck came back with an electrical problem and it just happens to be the mechanic has to be fixing that truck before mine.... :biggrin_25510:

How does compression leaks blow out a frost plug and not the rad cap?
