Not my truck but a buddy of mines that just brought his truck out on road today.
His truck went into cat for major blowby and oil loss. Cat did 20something thousand dollar over haul. Gets to the site today and ask me to look at a concern of his. The blowby tube wasnt chugging like a freight train but sure has a tone of steady flow of steam coming out. I went and pulled his dipstick and that son of a gun was pushing alot out of the tube as well. So we go over to my truck which has 300k miles on cat rebuilt from same cat dealer. Virtualy nothing out of blow by tube and absolutely zero coming out of the dipstick tube. So comparison on same conditions. HE took video of the blow by on his truck and a video of mine and sent to service manager.
So my question is for those that have experience with this. Is this normal?
Of course the motor is warrantied.
Blow by on fresh rebuild?

Doesn't sound normal to me. My truck has 200,000 on rebuild and very little blow by and none from the dip stick tube

Did he break it in? I have had many Cats slobbering like a stuffed pig after inframe. Work them hard to seat the rings. Cylinder pressure is needed. Should get better the more you work it.

Goodysnap Thanks this.

ACERT or pre-ACERT engine? Like @Goodysnap posted, run it in for a week and see what happens. Needs good load to seat the rings. Did he put a new turbo or air compressor on it?
Cam Roberts and Goodysnap Thank this. -
+2. It needs more heavy work for proper break in.

Can't expect much the first day of working it. By the sound of it, it may be worse than what would be considered normal, but it really needs to be run a bit before it's condemned.
My last truck had a rebuild done at Cat, and it was about 25000 miles until it quit slobbering and using oil. But after it quit, I didn't add a drop of oil between oil changes.Cam Roberts Thanks this. -
When I worked at Cat most trucks got ran on the chassis dyno for an hour or so under a pretty good load after a rebuild. Our marine and generator engines got that same treatment.

Cat did the package below the best one. Platinum? The reused things like the turbo-air compressor and i think injectors and crank.
For a few grand more, i would have gotten the best package but the guy is a bit of a cheap ###
