I swear those truck stop mechanics tear up more #### than they fix.. well luckily it was something relatively easy

That happened to me many moons ago. I called the shop that did the service, they were ready to come out and handle the situation but I was close to them and drove there. They looked everything over and apologized, they even had my truck steamed all under the carriage and a wash. After that episode, I went back to doing my own services. But now that I’m way more grayer…… I have a certain shop do it or I’ll do it myself. Depends how busy I am.

Well, I think you dodged a bullet, of sorts, but the bigger issue here is the loose drain plug. I'm not fully convinced someone that does that for a job, would not tighten the drain plug, unless specifically ordered not to do so. Don't think so? These grease monkeys all work together, and a loose drain plug is hard to prove, and voila, job security. The bad thing here, while the seals may be okay, the brake shoes need to be replaced. You never get oil out of brake shoes, and will squeal and stick in damp weather. Maybe the mechanics intent? I equate the truckstop mechanics like a walk-in clinic. Don't do it.

Prime example of why I tell my guys to finish a task they started before going to hack a dart. So easy to miss the little things.

I am not bringing it back to the speedco, I was only taking it there because it was a Sunday morning and wanted to get a pm done before my work week. have a shop where I park that’s been in business along time and they are gonna take care of it, the truck had just got a full 360 dot inspection the day prior and the dot was a stickler he got me for a lose bolt which I got under and tightened on a plate that covers any joint, so it wasn’t lose then I’m not sure really how it became lose and fell out. I’m just glad I noticed it and didn’t completely mess my front diff up.

Sucks though because missing work and mulch loads have been moving a lot locally and paying good. I wish I had my own space set up to do work myself instead of waiting for the shop to get it done.

I can second truck stop shops fixing their boo-boo's. I had an incident once that cost the shop an axle shaft, a wheel hub, and a wheel seal they said was leaking but it wasn't. The goons that did the damage tried telling me I needed to pay for it and I told them no way in hell, buddy. Waited til the next day and called the shop foreman. He apologized and three days later (wait for parts and such) they had it done.
