I was driving across I-26 in NC in the middle of the night. I had a bear behind me and gave a report. All of a sudden words come across, "you give my position I have to pull you over". :biggrin_2556:

He turned out to be pretty cool and we talked for 20 minutes.
    Some do listen.

I had a similar situation happen in the middle of the night in Nebraska on 80 right before the e/b Greenwood scale. I called out a bear in the median and instantly heard him reply on the radio "Heeeeeeeeyyyyyyyy that's not very friendly like, where ya headin' driver?" :biggrin_25524:

I now put a little distance between the bear and myself before giving a report.:biggrin_25523:

Most bears still have cb's in their vehicles, they just don't talk on them much. Ruins the surprise.

In a coop somewhere a few years ago with my paperwork and I heard the CB in the coup go off with a Driver looking for a way around the coup..... The Cop got on and told him how to go around the coup.... But. He had a trooper waiting for him with the portable scales. I learned after that one, that they may be listening to me when I ask if they are open.

"Had " to run one in Wisconsin many years ago - The only coop between West Bend, WI, and NY at the time. I was on S/B I-94 (they called it E/B then) - blew the scales, then looked in the mirror and saw Smokey pull over the wrong truck. The truck took like a mile to pull over (on purpose, I guess) . . . by then, I was in in Illinois! 30+ years ago, and I am still telling the story. Life is good!

LA is bad about red lighting everyone (pre-pass). Then closing the scale when it's full. But they often forget to flip the switch on the pre-pass.

They won't come get you if that's the case.

Hmmmm, and here I thought cops couldn't have CB's in their vehicles. Interesting....

Wyoming and Nebraska cops are notorious for having CB's in their cars, and they aren't afraid to let you know it either. I've sometimes wondered if the person who wrote the trucking song White Knight hadn't previously dealt with a Wyo. or Ne. trooper.

Theres one on ..I think its US 41, but its the "skokie highway", going north from illinois into wisconsin...i've blown past it several times because of its convenient positioning. Total mistake, each time. Basically, theres a sign saying its "ahead" and open, then a bunch of trees blocking the view of the entrance, and by the time i saw the entrance i was past it. Nobody ever came looking for me either...

Also, apparently you havent been out here very long, but most scales aren't side by side...quite a few have several miles between the east and westbound side..
