Wow, can someone tell me what is unsafe about running 42k on 11 tires? I've run 42k on 8 before, legally, without a problem. I'm not talking about shredding bits and pieces, I'm simply talking about all the "you're gonna die" folks here, because this guy popped a tire on triaxle. You gloom and doomers might not want to come down to FL, as we can put 44k on 2 axles without a permit or any other BS.
Blown tire: how far do you think I can drive?

I think most of this thread is directed at the fact it was a fuel tanker and weighed 98,000.
-
And the WINNER of the threads BS Award is
I didn't lose control at all. In fact, for the first couple of seconds, I didn't even notice anything was wrong because I had my headphones on and was watching my new TV. I noticed sparks from the left front of the truck, so I pulled over to assess the damage, and finally after about 4 minutes of personal debate I said to heck with it, and hit the trail. I ended up driving all the way to Blythe, which IIRC was about 100 miles or so. Really the only challenge was keeping the truck in my lane due to the left steer tire being disentigrated, I was rolling on the wheel which gave little to no traction making it hard to fight the wind.Last edited: Jul 9, 2012

98k gross weight doesn't mean a whole lot really, since we're only talking about the weight on the trailer, as that is the reason this truck went from perfectly fine to a bomb ready to kill someone with its "explosive diesel". We can run 88k on 5 axles off interstate and 44k per TANDEM, not TRIDEM, fuel tankers down here without issue. What it comes down to is drivers barely knowing the difference between a steering wheel and a fifth wheel commenting on stuff, when the most they ever scaled was 12/34/34 in a dry van and they think those are the only legal weights in the country.
I have personally run a flat, pried one of the outside rim and run just the wheel, and I've called road service. It all depended on the situation and which made the most sense. -
question of the day. for all you nervous by the book willies.
you drove down the road for however many hours. before you stop for whatever reason. when you realize a flat tire.
do you know how long you drove with that flat tire????????????????????????????????????????????????????
becuaswe they don't always go BANG
yet you condemn the rest of the world for limping to a shop.
question of the day
your in the middle of the dessert. no cell signal. civilization is 100 miles away. you gonna walk????????????????????????????
cuz there are all parts of the U.S.A. where that scenario can happen. and usually always does.
there are times when you have no choice but to drive. and there are times when you drove and had no idea.
either way. if you don't like the idea. that's your perogative.
i alwys have and always will continue to do to get me to a shop or a place to park. within reasonable limites. i slow downi. and i drive with my hazards on. and if it's a tank or haz load. then you are allowed to drive to a safe haven or shop. I TOOK THE HAZ TEST FOR MY LICENSE LAST WEEK.
but i'm not autocar and some of you other o/o's. i don't have money filling up my wallet,. and i most certainly don't want just any ole tire they bring out to me.
one flat tire and i limp her in. been doing it for 13 years. never had a problem. any of you don't like it., TAKE YOUR HOLLIER THEN THOU BY THE BOOK AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR PIPE. -
A flat tire is not a blown tire. The OP noticed one tire was blown and the other was hot while he was already parked at a rest haven. Stop trying to change the subject and stop trying to justify a illegal act.otherhalftw, Roadmedic and FLATBED Thank this.

Have you ever blown a tire and drove at 60mph with a fishtailing trailer? With a tanker hauling liquid hazmat at that? I don't think so and that's exactly what the op did.

I see no account of a "fishtailing" trailer in any of the OP's posts, nor can I imagine why a trailer with 42,000 and 11 tires on the ground would "fishtail" in the first place. As I have already stated, gasoline and diesel tankers with the same or more weight per axle and axle group do it every day with less tires here in FL at 70+ mph and this is not some nuclear wasteland. You're user name is befitting of your responses.SL3406 Thanks this.

And all that time you were a rolling bomb waiting to go off!! What about the children!!!
Lol
Of course they're hot, have you seen the outside temp lately in the US? You guys are horrible at math, he had 42k on 11 tires since one was blown...........how is that overloading anything?
fishtailing? Seriously, one tire out of 12 is blown and that makes the trailer fishtail, you've apparently never pulled a tri-axle trailer.
