I-70 through Glenwood Canyon is an engineering marvel. It is one one the most expensive stretches of Interstate highway in the nation.

I know. I know. Don't tell me.

It's those pesky 50 mph curves speed (and less in winter conditions) that just aren't that much fun, especially when coupled with a fuel truck wreck or landslides at times.

Better than no interstate.

Fun fact you did not know about me: I have visited the Leinie Lodge in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Absolutely gorgeous area.

One day, I hope to visit The Dells.

 

Wisconsin/UP really is a beautiful area, I didn't leave on that regard, it was a tough choice, the UP or Colorado. The Dells "Duck" tours are certainly worth taking. Glenwood Canyon was an engineering marvel, FOR 1992! They have those "info" boards telling how fast you can go, and I've crawled through there at 20 mph. We've had some mombo rain storms come through in summer, almost always causes havoc and washout closures. Of course it's better than no interstate, unless of course, it's closed. I've always heard old timers say, going west, unless necessary, never go through Colorado in a truck, and now I know why. The I-70 corridor is a hot topic, and Glenwood Springs has seen a whopping 45.5% increase in traffic, and more is expected. Many sites , especially RV sites, tell of frustration from travelers, sitting for hours. If the DOT officials are stoned, that would explain a lot, but I think it's more denial than anything. Today, a brand new interstate would cost billions, and be obsolete before it's done. It's a big problem.
