Seen a wreck yesterday on I-79 here in WV on my way home from Baltimore. SUV hit the back of a van trailer. Suv driver died from what the news said.

It sheared the whole left side of the car off and left it hanging on the trailer. I’m wondering if a lawyer will go after the truck driver or the company. I read he was as going slow in the right lane when the accident happened. Traffic was just crawling by since there was debris in the road…

truck driver could have been going slow due to maybe someone in front of him going slow? or maybe the truck was derating..??

could have been maybe the SUV driver was going too fast..??

maybe the exit the trucker needed was coming up on him, so he was going the right speed to take it, but as you know everyone drives like maniacs even in the breakdown lane...like up here in MA..????

With all the hills and grades in West Virginia (3/4s of the state is smack dab in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains) the truck may have been pulling a heavy load up a grade and it may have slowed the truck down to a point where it’s crawling!
I know because it’s happened to me NUMEROUS TIMES-you’re in the right lane with 40,000 plus pounds in a GOVERNED TRUCK,going uphill at 25-35 mph, just trying to use as much torque as possible just to keep the truck moving, let alone get up the grade.
Even as we speak,I’m pulling a 43,100 pound load going from Missouri to Louisiana,my truck is governed at 65 mph, going up and down hills and I’m just going through the Ozarks! At the same time I’m praying some bonehead doesn’t rear end me while I’m going uphill, even though I have my lights and 4 ways on,indicating a slow moving vehicle!!

Wreck was at the 101 yard line, next exit was 99. I truly think he may have been experiencing the derate issue you mentioned but don’t know for sure. Exit 105 was 4 miles behind him.

I really believe the car driver was not paying attention for what ever reason, and tried to pass on the right but didn’t make it. The inside door panel was still on the door wadded up on the trailer. Even the outside door handle was visible.

Just think of where the seatbelt is anchored over your shoulder, that being ripped away without cutting the belt, had to be some damage to his chest and abdomen. We were creeping by because of debris in the road so I did take a couple pics to show my wife. I constantly warn her and kids about safety on the road and what can happen, not that she needs earned but I just do….

Oh I know exactly what you’re saying, I pulled a 55,468 lb mine shield up 79 and across 68 to Baltimore, I was dragging up some hills too. I’m still running an old 855 Big Cam that’s 39 years old lol, don’t have one of those modern 550 horse engines…

    I WISH I had a 550 horsepower engine!!
All we get in the Cascadias is 455 horses, and even then with certain grades the Detroit falls flat on its face!! lmao
