I am scheduled to go to Prime for orientation. Someone told me they check for your BMI, I am above what I was told the limit is. By a lot. They haven't said anything or asked about it. I asked my instructor and he said if they didn't ask, to roll with it.
Will they get me out to orientation and then send me home because my BMI is too high? or is it an overlooker? I would think they would bring it up at least once when I was talking to her. For the pre hire talk.

If they tried that with me I would holler discrimination. Just like if I was black, or a woman, or for religious reasons, or handicapped (which obesity is considered). They are an equal opportunity employer, so they need to play by the federal rules. If they deny you for that you need to fight it.

never would of thought they would check for bmi at prime..... have u seen some of the drivers over there........

First off, you have my sympathy. I know exactly where you are coming from, since I am also a lard arse.

Well, unless you have had a "face to face" with the recruiter, she is not gonna know how much you weigh. So I suppose it IS possible that they could get you into orientation, take one look at you, and say bye-bye.
You need to keep in mind that your instructor doesn't have anything at stake as to whether you find work at PRIME or not. And the recruiter, who most likely is paid to bring bodies in the door, is trying to do just that.
OTOH, if all you have heard about PRIME and BMI is from the grape vine, then I wouldn't be too concerned about it. But if it is in their recruiting info, then you will likely have a problem.
Also, as far as the poster who was talking about what some of the PRIME drivers look like, that could well be a reason they have started this, if in fact they have. It is one thing to hire a driver, and have him gain a lot of weight over a period of years. It is something else entirely, to bring in a new hire, that may will be considered a risk to their insurance stats.25(2)+2 Thanks this. -
No ####, just talked to recruiter and she just asked me what my BMI was. Said it was too high. Said at my height (5'11'') I need to be 279 or less. Disqualified!
Said they are doing it because DOT is going to start enforcing it. Good job came and went in a matter of hours. Wild world we are livin in. -
Well, I'm 6'2" and 240. Think I qualify?
-
I wonder if DOT really is going to start enforcing that. If they do there are gonna be one hell of a lot less truckers out there!
-
Probably, with Obama's health care and general policy #### being so hardcore against anyone it sees as not healthy, fit and green. Kill off or chisel away or bankrupt what it doesn't like or see fit.
-
I was gonna say...my recruiter asked me right up front how tall and how much do you weigh because of BMI.
-
so ya could not get hired with prime...... mabey you just got your lucky break ...... from what research i have done they are really not the cream of the crop to say the least.
