Just to be clear,it is the reciever who filed the claim against you?
If so,he cannot use those coils untill the claim is settled.
Ask the reciever where he has them in storage.
Or have your insurance ask it.
If he has used them...........should automaticly make the claim void.

Where does the receiver store the coils? If they store them outside then it's bs because they will get wet anyway. The only real reason to tarp them would be in the winter when salt is on the ground.

Use your pic. If coils were off the floor no water could have found its way up from floor? I threw some dollar store plastic over a load of stainless sheets then put tarps on, rain at rec. so trucks were unload inside some drops on plastic but no damage next truck pulled in behind me an rolled off tarps water standing on sheets, driver said its stainless it cant be hurt, they split a 4 by 12 bundle and shown him the water had spread across most of bundle, spending 2 or 3 bucks on plastic can save a hi $ claim.

"I pull direct and exclusively for this manufacturer: any product noted as damaged must be returned immediately to them...guess they've been having to many false claims of damage idk I'm just a truck driver" see how fast they 'can actually use it' and 'it isn't that bad' before you pull out the phone and start calling brokers, insurance companies, etc

Reminds me of a load I did out of Houston,TX to east coast. The load was a light load of Stainless tubes wrapped in protective plastic. At the last minute, the shipping supervisor runs out and says we are going to load steel pipes that are going to the same place. Ok, I said load them up. They did and took pictures as did I.

I got to the reciever and the shipping manager comes and and says, we are going to reject the load. I'm like ok, why? He says that the SS pipes were for a Nuclear project or something and the fact that they were rubbed against steel damaged them. Oh OH. We wait for 2 hrs for Houston,TX to open after I showed them pictures of loading and how it was loaded. They chewed the Tx guy out for not knowing that you cannot ever, never send SS and steel pipes together. I put my straps away and got my signed BOL and went on my way.

Take pictures, it saved my skin that day.

This is true. They cannot legally with hold payment of freight charges in lieu of a damage claim. That's why you are required to have insurance. Sounds to me like a receiver trying to get his freight for free by making scurrilous damage claims. Had a few of them in my life

From what I have read in this thread (unless I missed something), the receiver just made a notation on the paperwork. If that was just rolled plate steel with mill scale on it, and there was no road spray (water in between sheets) then there shouldn't be a claim.
They probably received enough loads off trailers with holes in the deck, they just automatically make a note just in case there is extensive damage.

BTW I agree, it is good practice to throw something on the deck to protect some loads from moisture! I welded for yrs and still ware the jacket, that old welding jacket has been thrown on the deck, used as a weather front... ;)
