I thought RC or "rate con" meant rate confirmation. It is a rate contract that I am confirming I accept.
I guess as long as me and the shipper agree on what it means, not what it is called. That is what matters.

A printer is an essential tool for me in the truck. Remember when stopping at the Truckstops was required to get paperwork faxed or printed from a fax. I'm surprised how many businesses still list a fax number.

Many times I have used the shipping documents (I get when loaded) I just put BOL on the top and run with it. Making sure all my company information is on the paperwork.

Unfortunate the Ridgeline driver was dinged for no BOL. Knock on wood, all the inspections I've had never resulted with a paperwork violation. Thankfully.

Writing BOL's using the blank forms as, God prefers Diesels, stated, works great also. I do that for many loads picked up in the field.

Yep, I agree. I think we're both right. Not to split hairs but I've heard rate confirmation and rate contract. It's kind of both so no matter really.

Lumber used to be notorious for this. I imagine it still is. It is was not uncommon for a load of lumber to change hands four or five times from the mill to the store. I think the worst I ever heard was it changed hands 7 times. One broker bought it from the mill then sold it to another broker, who sold it the lumber treating plant, who sold it to the distribution center, who sold it to another broker, who sold it to the hardware store and never left the deck until it was at the store. No one knew where it was going or where it came from.

    Worth repeating ...

Bill Of Lading (BOL) is what you have to produce AS A DRIVER, it has to come from only the carrier. The shipping paper work comes from the shipper (I made the mistake to say broker first) and IS NOT a BOL.

The bill of laden is a legal document saying the carrier accept the product and are responsible for it.
