I haul Pharmaceuticals. We get a BOL from the shipper but also have a company (carrier) BOL. Receiver signs both and returns a copy of each.
Airbills for international loads are prepared by the shipper but we also have a company BOL the airline signs. We don’t usually get a copy of the airbill back since the load continues on...
BOLs

Is there a reason that you could not have had the shipper correct the document before you signed for it and left with it?
Since the BOL is printed by the shipper there is no reason for us to mark up anything.
It should be 100% correct when we leave with it.
After the fact changes by the driver is a bit iffy in a court of law, I would think.spindrift Thanks this. -
I agree.
The trailer was spotted for me so I didn't load. Have an email from the carrier authorizing my hand written change (initialled by me) to the BOL. I think I'm good with the paper trail.Moosetek13 and ncmickey Thank this. -
If a BOL does not show my in and out times on it, and I was there long enough to earn detention pay, I will write my in and out times on the BOL, as instructed by my company. I don't qualify and the shipper or receive won't pay detention if that information is not provided on the BOL when it is scanned after a load is completed.
Dave_in_AZ and spindrift Thank this. -
had better be accurate! Each compartment needs to be labeled and quantity, product description needs to on BOL.
You are looking at a big fine if not.
If you are picking up a dropped trailer I wouldn’t move it until proper documentation is sent to you.Bean Jr., Accidental Trucker, Blue Zombie Trucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
