I have been looking for a book for newbie tractor-trailer drivers. I am particularly interested in mechanical/systems information. I don't need a shop manual (though I did look for a used one but a mechanic told me that, when they went all digital, the company made them throw their books out; they couldn't keep them!) but just some basic information about the common systems and trouble-shooting guides, etc.
I am a good back-yard mechanic with gas vehicles (I have engine rebuilding experience, etc.) and can diagnosis stuff pretty well with those but I don't know much about desiels and air & wet systems.
    Any suggestions/information appreciated.
    Thank you.

You can google individual systems like "Tractor trailer air brakes" and find all kinds of useful links. Another good source is get on You Tube and search out individual items. There are good video's explaining transmissions, engines or anything you want to know.

    Even search out "Pretrip Inspection".

As far as a book, I'm not aware of any that would cover all components other than something on pretrip inspections. Those can be found on any state drivers license site under the CDL manual download links.
