The boost seems low on my C13 (just got it) and it sounds kinda goofy when it spools up. Cruising down the highway it runs at about 15 lbs boost and when I work it it will go to about 35 pounds. If I pinch the waste gate hose I can get it to 47 pounds but only once it gets to about 1800 RPM. It's hard to REALLY load it because I'm about 24,000 pounds and have 4:30 gears. When the turbo spools it makes a sound similar to a fan belt squealing rather than a nice clean whistle. I've checked and rechecked all the hump hoses and the bellows between the turbos as best as I can see and don't see any leaks. Is this normal for a C13 and, if not, what should I be checking? I will be pulling the intake hose this evening to ensure that the wheel isn't rubbing the housing.

I don't believe it's normal at all. I drove a C13 Acert and it made 45 pounds of boost almost instantly. My truck had 410 rears and it ran like a bear. Sounds like the impeller is rubbing the housing on one of the turbos with a sound like your describing.

    Doesn't sound right to me.

    I had a C15, but still, it's a very similar setup.

It could be a bad turbocharger, or possibly a leak somewhere in the air-to-air system. I would have them pressure test it. What you need to watch for is a lot of shops refuse to test air-to-air systems at anything over 30PSI. This won't find your problem if it takes 40 PSI for a hose clamp or a air-to-air to leak noticeably. Insist they test higher, 40 to 45 range. If a hose, clamp, or the air-to-air blows, it was going to anyways.

My C15 would reach about 48 PSI at 1700 RPM, foot to the floor. Your gears are very high, I can see how it may be an issue to properly load the engine with that kind of gearing, and only 24,000 pounds. Still, it doesn't sound right to me. I'd have it checked out pronto before that impeller flies off on you and the entire air-to-air system will need to be replaced because of the metal that will travel through it.

Checked the wheels on both turbos and they are fine. They do not rub on the housing. This truck was in an accident, fell on it's left ear, and in the process, smashed the secondary fuel filter and cracked the lift pump. Of course we put on a new pump and filter but, I'm wondering if something else got tweeked and perhaps I have a low fuel pressure issue for some reason. Doesn't account for the goofy sound of the turbos tho'??

The truck still has the catalytic mufflers on it. Is it possible that they are somehow plugged and causing so much back pressure that the turbos can spool up properly, or am I just grasping at straws?.

Just replace my twin turbo on my 2006 peterbilt 387. I'm only getting 20 psi on my boost. When I try getting it up to 20 psi my engine seems to suffocate and the truck jerks.
