Booted on Hobby Lobby Parking Lot- Newnan, GA

Hobby Lobby sucks. Might as well call it the Chinese Craft Outlet Store. They have road signs and stuff like that that looks like vintage Americana and you turn it around and says made in China. And they use all their profits to buy a bunch of religious relics to stick in that stupid Museum they're building in Washington DC.

 

My problem with them is all the hobby stuff is already done?! Its a nick nack shop, not a hobby shop... could care less bout there motives though... their money, their problem....

 

Go to the back of the store there are plenty of raw materials made in China that can keep you busy all day. I bought a pinewood derby car get there once and build it with my son.

 

Eh.. we have Michaels arts n crafts stores here to, better prices, better selection. But generally i go to hub hobby, rockler, and a few others. The wife n girls go wherever the best choice is, #### the price!

There is a difference between Hobby Lobby and a TRUE hobby shop.

If you visit a true hobby shop as we have for generations, you will see models, trains, electronic equipment for control of same, radio control etc. Very specific and extremely good quality (Also expensive these days) We have been losing Hobby Shops nationwide as people die off and the Kin do not want to carry on a business model in which a greying America declines in numbers. You can generally get the same type of model stuff online for cheaper than retail, but don't tell the store keep that. It's not for everyone, you have to know what you are doing and make use of all trades such as electricity, woodworking, paint and chemicals and so on.

 

Yup, hub hobby is a local (as far as I know) hobby shop that i started going to when i was a kid, model planes, rc cars my dads trains...

 

I blame video games and cable television with 300 channels. The kids these days don't want to do Hobbies anymore. I save my train set from when I was a kid back in the seventies and eighties and set it up for my boys. they took one look at it and then walked back to the Xbox.

 

Never really got into XBox or any of those things since it gave me a bad case of vertigo and up-chucking due to graphics. I've got a few model trains in the house, but that hobby could get very expensive, very quickly. Alas, I now put together electrical doo-dads for bicycles. Hook up sound systems, hook up car-horns, LED lights,. etc

 

Certian graphic situations is a problem in the games here too.

There has been a recent movement towards minature trucks. with engines, fuel etc. Im working on learning more, but it would be a huge interactive bonus over a xbox.
