I see that you like open wheel racing. Why not get a job with an Indycar team and then you get to park at all the cool tracks with all the hot Tecate girls hanging around.

Unfortunately I am a F1 fan, and married so the Tacate girls would get me killed :).

Do have friends who are into historic racing, if a gig that pays the bills ever comes along I'm ready!

So now it's some other person or companies responsibility to see you have parking in order for you to keep a job?

I am not even a trucker yet, so please forgive me in advance. Hypothetical...If you arrive to a receiver on time with hours left and they do not get you unloaded before your hours are up, can you pull the truck out, shut the doors and tell them you will be back so they can finish unloading when you have more hours? That is if they will not allow you to park on their lot? To be more clear...if you arrive at say an appointment time of 8am...and you have 4 hours left on clock...and they have not even started t unload you at 3 hours 30 minutes of you waiting...can you leave to park and reschedule? Or have your Company calI to work it out? I hope that makes sense.

We have a place down the road from house that if you don't pay to park they will put a chain thru the holes in your steer tire and lock it till you pay the parking fee

It really depends on your company, to many on this thread act as if they live in a world where drivers have power, and to be fair some owner operators do have far more choice than company drivers.

You may be at the mercy of the shipper and have to find a safe haven out of hours, yes you can try and leave, but if your company does not support you then you may catch static.

Research conducted by the American Transportation Institute suggests that parking is one of the most stressful aspects of trucking.

Yes smart guy, when it takes 8 hrs to load a scheduled truck and they run him out of hours they should be required to provide parking - the driver was on time and it wasn't their fault they ran out of time.

I am thinking of others, I am lucky and work for a good company and really don't have many problems, for others this is not the case.

Maybe you are an owner operator and therefore have more control, maybe you just like to argue a point. Nonetheless parking is available problem that needs to be addressed in many cities, I think we have already agreed that permission should be granted before you park.

I am not aware of the downsides of driving when out of hours and the possible penalties. I would think that since you need your CDL to feed your family and keep a roof over their heads, you would try to keep your license and the receiver and your company be ######. I am sure I am not correct on this, but if I can't drive and can't stay...what choice is there? Just wondering. Maybe that does not occur that often...just curious about the realities on the road. Thank you.
