He prolly doesn't know about the SAFER system or how to use it.

To the person who said sure, drivers take care of minor things like lights. That is something the company should reimburse you for if you are a company driver. In fact, anything they want you to do with the truck, they should provide you with the tools to do it - stuff like, check tire pressure every morning. They should give you a truck tire pressure gauge. If they want you to change the fuel filter yourself, while out on the road? a fuel filter wrench.
They need you to go into plants that require hard hats? They prolly should give you a hardhat (although most places will have loaners you can use to catch your lice). Just my .02.

The trailer reg. was your fault. You should not have pulled it til you got a faxed copy. Its mandatory to check it. If you were my employee, you would be paying the fine.

Problem I've encountered with employers is that if you say you're not moving then they just let you go like TempTrans. owned by Emilio Gugliani out of Adelanto Ca. If you complain about anything and they know you depend on this job for your family surviving, they will make you run doesn't matter if your out of hours you have to cook up your logs or you're just out of co.

This is an ongoing discussion with my husband he keeps buying stuff(tools) and owners tell him they're theirs and my husband doesn't want to argue he doesn't like to he says better one fool than two, same thing on advances,I'm still not clear on this one He gets an advance because he other run out of ones for food etc. thing s most owner operators or other co's tell him to use that money for tolls, am I wrong does it not an advance comes out of your paycheck? It's your money no? I believe that let's JST say they don't give him for tools it should be his choice to pay the toll and get reimbursed but its his choice as much as it is the op to give him the advance or not?

The onus is on the driver to 1: ensure the vehicle is safe to operate by completing a proper circle check
2: ensure all operating authorities and permits are valid before moving
3: ensure all safety inspections are current and will not expire before the end of the trip
4: ensure all trip paperwork is completed (ie your DVIR is completed properly)
5: ensure your logs are up to date and the requisite days needed to be carried are with you. many companies have gone to E-Logs now, so that helps somewhat.
6: ensure you yourself are fit to drive and you are legal with regards to medical, time off etc

There is a lot of responsibilties placed on drivers, from various government organizations, to company requirements. Ultimately, the job falls on us to ensure we are compliant on the road. Literally, open your permit book and make sure all is in order. Your cab card needs to be current, insurance, ownership, authorities etc all need to be in order. Yes, the company needs to make sure those are there, but you are the one driving the truck so you are responsible.

I got tagged for this once when I worked at Roehl. Granted the trailer's registration was posted online and so was "gray area legal", but I still got a warning for not being able to produce the paperwork. That said, I didn't look for the registration during my pretrip. I didn't blame Roehl, it was MY fault. Period.

What do you do when you do tell owners or whoever is in charge and they say well you either roll or go home? When you really need the job?he has had to change jobs so many times because of this and then there's the companies that they just close under one name then reappear under another so by the time we file for unpaid wages the company doesn't exist or it's under new ownership?:FIRE:
