The recycling co. my distant cousin works for had to depose of around 200 new Cat 3406/C15 short blocks that Holt/Cat had to get rid of around the time they pulled out of the truck engine market. They were future replacement engines that the gubment said they couldn't sell.

I still hand cut a lot of gaskets for little things for oil and antifreeze.

I have made head gaskets for things like my big Bessemer, it’s low compression and only 180 rpm…. D6E5A1DA-1864-4238-B21B-7EC6B4146B66.jpeg

That’s gotta be the worst non-genocidal story I’ve ever heard!

But that doesn’t add up, they still use the C15 in equipment today….

    Rideandrepair and dirthaller Thank this.

My next door neighbor, an elderly guy (RIP) used to have bs sessions with me across the fence (Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor and Wilson type thing). I asked him about the brand new 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 I’d seen him driving….he said he traded his old truck in (cash for clunkers). I almost cried because his old truck was a 1992 F-150…8’ box regular cab 80,000 original miles…garage kept…barn find…..5.8 (351cid)…E4OD auto transmission, two tone, XLT Lariat in pristine condition. They destroyed it!
He thought he was cutting a fat cat with the “deal”. I don’t think he did well enough on the price of the GMC to justify destroying that beautiful Ford.:(

For those of us that love and respect everything that is free in the automotive world that is genocide. Lol

These were assembled to be sitting stock for trucks. Govment outlawed them. Had to be destroyed.

    Rideandrepair and OLDSKOOLERnWV Thank this.

I’m wondering what the deal is because the block and crank is the only thing not truck specific on a C15 short block.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

You notice how you never find early emissions cars or non emissions vehicles for resale at new vehicle dealers unless its some unicorn type collector job? If they’ve been traded in they have to forfeit it and engines have to be “holed”.

It had to do with serial number runs that were already registered for on the road use.
