The OP said he paid cash for the truck. The safe assumption at this point is that he bought the truck used and that's what I based my comments on.

The only way anyone should present the full payment for a used truck to either a dealer or private party is if they can produce a title. If they're still in the process of obtaining it in their name from the DMV, then they can also be "in the process" of getting money for the vehicle.

"Proof of ownership" is a minimum requirement for any sale. Too many people try to sell vehicles that don't belong to them or vehicles that have liens on them. The only way to know if the vehicle you wish to purchase is free and clear is to see the title.

For Texas purposes, the CMV can be operated while unregistered in Texas as long as the dealer issues Temp plates. He would still need a state inspection though.

Was this a brand new truck from a dealer or a used truck?

Instead of insulting and running off the op let’s wait and see what happens and we can learn from his experiences.

I have bought a brand r new truck in Missouri and live in Arkansas. They come with a certificate of origin. That's the piece of paper that the DMV or IRP depending on your situation accept and allow you to register it. The title is then printed and sent to the owner or lien holder.

If used their is no need for a dealer to put the title in their name either. Their is an area on the back dedicated to reassignment by liscened dealer only.

My guess is that the OP bought a trade in that wasn't paid for when traded. There fore the dealer has to pay the first leinholder off and wait for the title to magically appear. He has a truck that is useless without it. Could be days could be months who knows.

You know your probably going to need that title notarized when the owner signs off on it. I hope you got your bill of sale notarized. Come on ! This is America land of Latin legal paper pushing procedures

I quoted you because what you wrote is full of misinformation. I'm not trying to have a peeing contest, we are all here to learn hopefully before the same thing happens to us.

The dealer can reassign a title on the back he doesn't have to send it off to come back in the dealers name.

For the OP without the title you can not register it anywhere. Having a certificate of origin (if new) or a title if used is step number 1

Can you imagine if dealers had to title all of the vehicles they sold?!
