Called the GA DMV, they said because the dealer/ seller registered the truck with the state of Georgia (instead of texas where i live and business isran from), when I originally purchased the truck... this forced me, according to GA law to mandatorily have to either pay the TAVT tax or register with the IRP in Georgia... before i even get the title....
Had they registered it in texas... I'd be ok...
Supposedly.
So i got the IRP in Georgia paid the 300 and they are now supposed to release the title.
The georgia DMV said its normal for people to have dual registry... running business out of georgia when I'm stationed for texas...
Now.... since the dealer registered the truck in georgia. I can't register the truck in my texas based company. I had to do it in my personal name.
Will do this solely to be able to run the business and get these loads out.... but nightmare if i get in trouble or an accident. Not a good start to owning mY own business.
I hope I help someone. Pay attention and ask questions.tucker Thanks this. -
So it's registered under my name. Title in the mail. Now my trailer... can I run loads in it if it has temporary tags....smh

WAIT!
OK it is simple, run your truck under the Georgia registration under your own name. It doesn't matter where it is registered, it matters if it is.
If there is an issue, talk to a lawyer about leasing the truck to your company and have them pay for the maintenance.
Then during the next year, get someone like an EA or a good accountant to figure out how to transfer the property to your company.
BUT I am not clear why the dealer would use personal info if you have a company already established. The state doesn't matter when it comes to these trucks, I buy trucks all over the country and never had an issue with a dealer telling me they can't put it into the company name.csmith1281 and Justrucking2 Thank this. -
The dealer registered the title in Ga... therefore Ga DMV wouldn't let me use a texas based company to register the truck with them.... -
Run the truck under the Georgia registration and then later on transfer it out of your name and into your company and into Texas, you will need help with that depending on your situation.Justrucking2 Thanks this. -

This just sounds like a headache. I wish the OP the best of luck moving forward and I hope this gets worked out in his favor. However, I'd never make a rash decision such as running off and buying a truck, only to find my self in a situation such as this. If I ever make the decision to buy a truck, I plan on doing so in the state I live (Tx) and I'll be #### sure I know exactly what I need to do, and have a proper plan of attack as to hopefully avoid such a mess.

Insurance is great. Got that taken care of... paid cash for the year...
Ridgeline... yes that's what I'm going to do. Im going to take a full load to texas so i don't lose more money then re register everything.
I paid someone to help me.... but tgey took the money and left me with this trash ...
I made a good decision with no forethought in the process in researching etc. Know your facts and don't let anyone tell you anything with out proofcsmith1281 Thanks this.
