its alot easier then for you to just put not for hire on the truck then youd not need authority as it is a personal use vehical just get the regular state tag for it I have one that only runs florida it cost me a whole 384 dollars to put it on the road

the expensive part isnt getting the authority, its getting the insurance that you need to activate the authority. Also once you get your authority and then the insurance it will take the state two weeks or better to actually match up the authority and insurance so by the time they get it all done you are only two weeks out of making your first monthly insurance payment. Most insurances will want between 2500 and 3500 down depending on your record,time with a cdl and what you need for cargo insurance. Also if you bought a day cab its almost worthless as an otr truck because of no sleeper.

I'm pretty sure you're not legally allowed to drive a tractor on public roads if you don't have a CDL-A, even if it's just bobtail. Then of course you need to have the proper insurance and state registration in place.
If it's just going to be operated on private property (farm would be the most common situation) you may not need any of that, or you may need all of it. Your state's DMV would be the first place I'd check.
