Strange, I got a full MC insurance including bobtail for a decent price with 10 months CDL back in 2015. Call E & Y insurance in Troy and ask for Sarra, maybe she can help you out

    Oldironfan and Rideandrepair Thank this.

This is a catch 22 scenario. I bought a used truck from a friend, called progressive, my insurance agent, and was denied bobtail insurance for the truck. Even thou I had 9 trucks leased on to me and had all insurance thru progressive. Was told could not write bobtail without liability being in force first. I just wanted to bring truck home, didn't want to take a chance and have a drunk pile into me then sue me. Called OOIDA they couldn't help me either. I finally had to get liability to safely bring it home. Also had to get IRP, this is in Tn.

If you buy a new truck or car this is taken care for you by the dealer, they give you temp plate they apply for regular plate, you get insurance and good to go. If you buy a vehicle from Craig list then you are on your own to make sure paperwork is in order before you drive it. I do have a friend here in TN that deals in buying off Craigs list, he just takes a chance without plates, he also has told me his insurance will cover. I believe insurance will cover if vehicle is legal, like in properly registered. I'm sure if I car jack someone and have a accident I wont be covered even thou I might have insurance on my personal car.

I wouldn’t have a problem running it back till I got to Mi.These Nazis love to put the screws to you. I ran my current Truck back from Ga by way of Mississippi w/ a trailer and s Load. It was do or die. Had a temp tag from Chrysler Dealership 4 wheeler style. Guy comes up at TS asks about my plate. Said he was talking to wife and busted out laughing. Saw my ragtag Name And dot# duct taped to tanks. Told her this guy thinks we’re still in the 80s.

In Michigan No fault will cover Me if I’m driving someone’s car. Liability that is. I’m sure Still get ticket if it wasn’t legally registered and insured. The real risk here is liability. Tickets can be fought. Don’t want a judgement or ? If accident.

The bobtail rule sounds right as it’s actually called non trucking liability. Probably written as a Rider or whatever with Liability already in place
