I see these stories all the time. Why dont people ask questions before they buy or make plan or even get the proper documents before transactions. Baffles me
roshea and tommymonza Thank this. -
When I bought my first truck, I flew to MO from MI, got a policy from Progressive under personal name, just like for a car, did not have a trucking company yet. Got the title from seller and drove home on Sunday, figured two weigh stations on the way home will be closed and they were.
Every time I would see a state trooper my pulse would start raising a bit, but everything went well, nobody has stopped me.
Went to Secretary of State, transferred title to my name, told them it will be used for interstate trucking, so no tax under Rolling stock exemption.
Aftter couple of months cancelled Progressive, put it under commercial policy, went to IRP, got the plates and that was it.

Does it seem strange to anyone else that just about everyone’s on this thread is from Michigan? I believe this thread has crossed over into another dimension We are now all trapped in a Dilema that will never be solved.
Oldironfan and tommymonza Thank this. -
Yep
Needs to be leased on with a carrier or dot with authorityRideandrepair Thanks this. -
Didn't think getting non commercial liability would be such a problem.
Progressive said no, though on Monday I am going to call again.
I have decided I am not going to do anything as far as leasing on with anyone or attempting authority right now. Just pick the truck up and get it up to my buddies heated shop north of Grand Rapids for me to work on this winter.
I have 7 months tanker experience so far and the company I work for is easy going and has great equipment. So another 5 months of winter is this Florida Boy's next step of Hell.
My 89 year old dad is up in Michigan from Florida and had his 4th operation done on his hip.
That's my main concern these days.
Been Stuck up here Michigan for 2 years now. I can Weather another 5 months , and now I that my dad is up here recovering from his operation ,there is no big rush to get back to Florida other than my fear of getting frost bite in my flip flops.Last edited: Sep 25, 2018
