I priced outdrives and motors and wow big difference looks like mercruiser 1 is cheapest choice. Won’t be using much just don’t need any more projects or money pits

Make sure the ac clutch isn’t engaged. With it cycling like that only other thing would be command from ecm. Not sure what sensor would command that. I don’t remember a intake temp sensor.
For the drums I just shop around last I bought were from stone.

Trying to get my old feeble mind to remember. Above the AC compressor is the relay that sends and dumps the air to engage the fan clutch. I cannot remember where or which sensor would command that, but it should be water temp. To find the relay I'm talking about, build up your air and shut the truck off, then cycle the key on and off, with the ac switched on,you should hear the air dump from that relay, everytime you cycle the key. Trace the wiring and see if it goes to a sensor. When ac is engaged, clutch fan should run all the time,at least that's how mine was setup. Mine was a 95 9300 Eagle, yours might be a little different.
Also, check all the wiring for a break,or rub through.
I had the opposite problem on mine,I didn't think the fan came on enough, always like my engine to run cool. I interrupted the wire that fired the fan relay, ran a set of wires back to the cab and put a toggle switch in where I could engage my fan manually, when I wanted. If I was going to charge up a big mountain with a jag on,I'd throw the fan on a mile or two before I got there, get everything nice and cool, esp. on a hot day.
Hope this babbling helps, memory is not what it used to be.

    Great info thanks so much.

Yea I didn’t see a manual fan switch so I was thinking I would like to install one while I am at it.

A cool motor is a happy motor.

I am sure there is a ton of great info and wisdom in that mind.

If it is anything like mine these days that info is easier to remember than it is where you put your reading glasses.

So that upper slide control on the dash that says a/c is the only thing that engages the a/c compressor.

It does not do anything when I push it away from off on the right to ac on the left even though I can feel a drag on the control cable.

Most likely the a/c is low on freon and my gauges are back in Florida.

I can manually jump the a/c clutch if it stops raining

Need another person here to locate air dump for fan.

Well I might have some bad news

While crawling around in the motor while it was running I can detect a clack clack hammering sound.
Not like a loose rocker. More solid of a sound than that.

Time to pull the rear valve cover and do some exploratory.

    Next weeks project

I can see the relay moving in the heater box underneath the passenger seat. I jumped it still no a/c.

Probably low on Freon. Next week jump at the compressor and get to the bottom of the fan kicking on.

Gotta go visit dad in the hospital than haul a load of milk to Wisconsin tonight
