Phonics only works when the alphabet, written language, spoken language, and regional patois all line up. Phonically 'saorise' should be sa-or-eye-se or sa-or-ice. The proper pronunciation is sur-shuh. That's an Irish word with English spelling. Take a Native American word, have it written down by a Frenchman, then read by a German settler trying to speak english - lord only knows how the word will be pronounced.

 

I only mentioned Hooked on Phonics as a gibe. A lot of land is being returned to tribes out here and the returned land is almost always given a new name in whatever tribal language applies. It's fun watching white politicians, trying so hard to be woke, try to pronounce native names. When they fall back on what they learned in school it gets downright hilarious.
