Funny.. my Kenworth dealer has a big tank and a pump. DEF has a life of about a year, but can last as long as two years kept at a 75F. I've had zero issue with DEF at the pump, and most places that sell it at the pump are refilling it often.
Above somebody mentioned that PACCAR has a habit of putting the pump on the "wrong" side. It's not PACCAR necessarily because whomever specs the truck can put it on either side. I spec'd my new truck on the right side for two reasons. The fuel pump I use to fill up almost every day is on my driver's side and there wasn't room for the fuel tank, step box, and DEF tank on that side. Secondly, the DEF pump I access is on the right side of the truck.
Boxed DEF versus DEF at the pump

You can get bad DEF anywhere. A local equipment dealer had a bunch of bad DEF in boxes. Its all about proper storage and rotating of stock.
Not seeing the correlation between a bad tank of DEF and needing the filters baked. DEF has absolutely zero to do with the DPF (which is what gets baked when it becomes full of ash). All DEF does is react to the catalyst downstream of the DPF. Most likely you'd see poor NOx conversion efficiency.MACK E-6 and Truckermania Thank this. -
I didn't read all the posts on this but have something interesting to add (though others may have already stated it):
DEF is basically boiled down urine. It's uric acid. It is possible that someone could design a system the trucker could urinate in, it would boil it down to higher concentration and inject it in the exhaust just like now.
It would be like getting two birds stoned with one joint. (A rickyism for trailer park boys fans)Truckermania Thanks this. -
Badmon Thanks this.

Practically, perhaps not. But DEF is basically super concentrated urine.Truckermania Thanks this.
