Boyd is real big on idle time. They post every truck with idle time percentage on the bullentin board in the drivers lounge. I actually quit over their idle-time policy before getting fired for it. My truck didn't have an apu and when they send you to Laredo Tx for the weekend in June and July, it gets pretty hot. When they qustioned me about my idle time, I asked how was I supposed to stay cool. The answer--"Hang out in the truckstop". They're a good company, but I felt there was too much enphasis on the idle and not enough on safety and service.

I got a buddy of mine that is considering Boyd...Are there trucks governed at a certain speed?
Sorry to see you got a ProStar with a MaxxForce...Hopefully if you are lucky you'll get one with a Cummins. As far as the shifting goes, stick with it, and you'll get it figured out. Automatics are nice, I drive one and I wish we were keeping a few for the ones of us that like them. But we have to many crybabies so they are going back to all manuals now... -
Boyd seems like a perfect starting point for students.............so far i have no real complaints.
I like this pro star ,my shifting has improved greatly since my previous post....still needs improvement ............but its coming together...........
I have one more week of training then on to load securement! -
Hytekrednek, It's amazing how life can change. Blink and before your eyes come back open things are different. My brother has offerd me a job. In Alaska.
Running a bulldozer clearing land. Talk about a career change. And me being a lifelong Bama-Boy, well, the weather is going to take some getting used to. If it doesn't work out I'll be back on talking about trucking again.
Oh yeah. Me? Ice Road Trucker?
