Here's the deal. I am currently taking Indapamide, it's a diuretic medication that helps reduce elevated blood pressure. Had a doctors visit back in Nov. and the doc was a little concerned about my blood pressure and suggested I start on this medication since blood pressure problems can easily be remedied with a simple water pill for people that are generally healthy, ie, not 75 lbs. overweight, chain smoking, deep fat fried afficianados. Well my blood pressure has been steady and normal ever since. Heres the catch, when I took my DOT physical in Jan. I answered truthfully on the question of previous treatment for high blood pressure. BP was 126/68 at time of physical, well below the limit, but I was still only given a 1 year med. card. My question I guess is 2 sided. First of all will I ever be able to receive a two year card if I continue to control my bp ? Secondly is anyone gonna take a serious look at a newbie with a 1 year card ?

As long as you are on medication for high blood pressure you will be restricted to the 1 year card. The same goes for sleep apnea, diabetes, and other ailments requiring oral medication.

This is why many drivers do not disclose any of their medical ailments to the doctor doing the DOT physical.
