Need to do brakes on my pup dump trailer. It has budd style wheels. My wheel studs hold my brake drum to the wheel hub. I want to convert it to regular budd style stud. So my drum will come off hub without taking off hubs & bearings to access brakes. Has anyone done this. How easy is it. Do they make studs that will work with these hubs and just buy drums? Thanks for the help
brake drum & wheel stud ?

DO u mean dayton hubs? Helped a friend last weekend convert his plow truck l8000 ford from dayton hubs to budd hubs no problem.

I may be wrong but I believe your going to have to change the hubs over. Don't hold me to that though! Goodluck!

You have inboard drums and want to convert to outboard drums
You will most likely have to change the hub
Sent from my iPad using TapatalkBoxCarKidd and RedPete95 Thank this. -
are you going to convert to stud pilot, which is usually called a budd wheel or old style, or to the new style called hub pilot wheel mounting system?

you want to be able to change brake shoes be removing tires and droppin the drum ,from pulling the whole wheel assemblly and seals on a rockwell axel maybe if you get new 4 hubs 8 bearing4 inner an outer and 4 drums and 8 wheels.4 new seals no way on a fruehoff buy 2 new axels set up with outboards and wheels differt bolt hole size .

sounds like you have dayton wheels. if im correct you have 5 spokes. you can change over. it is simple but costly. you need 4 hubs 4 inside bears 4 outside bearings 4 seals, should do races while your at it. and 8 wheels. and 40 lugs either hub pilot or bud if bud you need outter nuts and inner barrels and if you go all alumin get the long studs for hub pilot or alumin stud and barrel sets for bud.....

If they are Daytons, which I don't think you have, you may not be able to do it if it has proppar axles (big plastic screw on hubcaps). What it sounds like to me is typical inboard drums with stud piloted (bud) wheels. If that's the case, you can buy new hubs, which are expensive to save some extra work for a brake job, but if you can get good used hubs and put in new bearings/seals, you can cut the cost down a lot. Now would be a good time to get some hub pilot wheels and get rid of the budds too. If you have steel wheels, inquire with some tire shops for recon wheel prices.
