I recommend the Merritor shoes, guaranteed against rust jacking,(causing linings to crack) They’re painted blue.Brand new. No core charge, I paid $60 a set. I put a set on the steers, plan on doing the same for Drives, when needed. They’re worth the extra $15. along with not having to return cores.

You know it's sad that's it costs less to change the brakes on a semi than on my pickup truck.
And we still have posters here glad they are too cheap and will brag about how much they are saving by going down a mountain on just the (company) trailer brakes.....
Also, all I've seen are drum brake prices. Anyone got a price for discs to compare to? -
FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

Other then ASE certified.
Are there qualifications to doing brakes?
Cars are in the same situation. But you don't hear of cars having accidents because of brake failure.
You hear about semi's all the time. Usually because drivers are too lazy to check their brake adjustment. USUALLY. There's the occasion worn out warped drum too. -

I've only read about ASE since we don't use it up here (full blown 6,000 hr/4 year apprenticeship in order to be a mechanic). Seems like there isn't much to getting ASE certified other than a few multiple choice test questions.

It means something at the dealers. Those that have it. Get more work. That's how it was 20 years ago anyways.
For me. It only mattered that I was safety and emissions certified to test vehicles. Nothing else mattered for doing work or getting a job.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
